Telangana Government to Cancel 78,842 Ration Cards Unused for Six Months
The Telangana government has taken a key decision regarding ration cards, which are meant to provide essential commodities to eligible low-income families. Authorities have focused on ration cards that have not been used for a long time.
The Civil Supplies Department has decided to cancel ration cards that have not been used for collecting provisions for six consecutive months. To this end, officials have already gathered necessary data from all mandal (block) centers across the state.
Based on the findings, 78,842 ration cards have been identified as unused in the last six months. The government has decided to cancel all these cards immediately. The Civil Supplies Department has shared this data with all district collectors and launched a thorough field-level verification.
A large number of such inactive ration cards were found in districts like Nalgonda, Medchal–Malkajgiri, Ranga Reddy, and Hyderabad, according to officials.
This move is aimed at ensuring that government welfare schemes benefit only the truly eligible citizens.
