Andhra Pradesh Weather Alert: Heavy Rains for 4 Days Due to Two Low-Pressure Systems in Bay of Bengal

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a key warning for residents of Andhra Pradesh’s coastal areas. Two low-pressure systems are forming consecutively in the Bay of Bengal, and widespread rainfall is expected across the state over the next four days. One of these systems is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm as it approaches the coast.

According to officials, a new low-pressure system will develop in the northern Bay of Bengal by Thursday. It is expected to move swiftly west-northwestward, possibly intensifying into a cyclonic storm near the southern Odisha–northern Andhra Pradesh coasts by Friday. This system may cross the coasts on Saturday, bringing heavy rainfall to several areas of Coastal Andhra Pradesh on Thursday and Friday.

Due to surface circulation in the Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure system developed yesterday. It is expected to move west-northwestward over the next 24 hours, causing localized heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in northern Andhra Pradesh today and tomorrow.

Earlier, the low-pressure system caused heavy rainfall in various parts of the state on Monday. Chintapalli in Alluri Seetharamaraju district recorded the highest rainfall of 8.4 cm, followed by Rajam in Anakapalli district with 6.2 cm, Kilagada in Alluri district with 5.9 cm, and Bodda in Vizianagaram district with 5.8 cm. Authorities have advised fishermen to avoid going to sea and urged coastal residents to remain alert.
