Heavy Rainfall: IMD Issues Red Alert for Three Districts After Cyclone

Cyclone Crosses Odisha Coast; Red Alert Issued for Three North Andhra Districts

A severe cyclone has crossed the coast near Gopalpur in Odisha, prompting the Meteorological Department to issue a red alert for three districts in North Andhra Pradesh. Officials warned of strong winds reaching 55–75 km/h along the coast and heavy rainfall affecting Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, and Vizianagaram districts.

The persistent heavy rains in Odisha have caused flooding in major rivers of Srikakulam. Water from upstream areas is entering rivers such as Vamsadhara, Nagavali, Bahuda, and Mahendra Tanaya, increasing water levels rapidly. Authorities have issued the first danger warning at Gotta Barrage on the Vamsadhara River and are releasing water to prevent overflow. Similarly, water levels in the Nagavali River near Narayanapuram Anakatta are rising intermittently.

The cyclone, while gradually weakening as it moves northwest, continues to affect coastal and adjacent districts. Residents are advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow official instructions as precautionary measures.
