Flood Alert at Prakasam Barrage – 65,000 Cusecs Released from Pulichintala
A heavy flood inflow has been recorded at Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada as 65,000 cusecs of water is being released downstream from the Pulichintala project. Due to continuous rains and rising inflows from upstream reservoirs, officials have issued warnings to people living in low-lying areas. District Collector Dr. G. Lakshmisha has directed authorities to remain alert.
Officials stated that the water is being released downstream according to the inflow received at the barrage. Flood alerts have been issued to residents on both the upstream and downstream sides of the barrage. By Wednesday afternoon, flood levels are expected to rise further. Irrigation officials estimate that it may reach up to 3 lakh cusecs in the next two days.
In response to the situation, NTR District Collector conducted an emergency review meeting with department officers. He ordered the deployment of NDRF and SDRF teams, and the preparation of sandbags and other protective measures. He also instructed that all staff remain available 24/7 to handle emergencies and visit affected areas when alerts are received. Authorities have warned the public to avoid activities like swimming, fishing, or boating in the Krishna River during this period.
