PM Modi Visits Air India Crash Site in Ahmedabad
June 13, New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Air India plane crash site in Ahmedabad on Friday. This tragic incident happened a day before, when a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff, killing 241 people, including 12 crew members.
Modi was welcomed at the Ahmedabad airport by Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel, Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, and Union Minister C.R. Paatil. The aircraft, operating as Flight AI-171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed into a residential area near BJ Medical College. Out of 242 people on board, only one person survived—a British national of Indian origin sitting in seat 11A, who is now being treated in a hospital.
PM Modi, who was once the Chief Minister of Gujarat, shared his sadness on social media: “The tragedy in Ahmedabad has shocked us all. My thoughts are with the families of those who died. We are doing everything to help.” The government has ordered a full investigation into the crash. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is handling the inquiry, and a high-level committee with aviation experts and engineers is being set up to improve future air safety. Investigators are now examining the black boxes to understand what happened during the final moments of the flight.
