Hyderabad Floods: Heavy Rain Engulfs City, 2-Day Telangana Rain Alert Issued
Heavy rain has flooded Hyderabad. The rain that began Thursday night continues into Friday morning without respite. Major areas like Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Panjagutta, Ameerpet, Secunderabad, and LB Nagar are waterlogged, causing severe inconvenience to commuters. Power supply disruptions were reported near Koti and Mozzamjahi Market.
Depression in Bay of Bengal
The Hyderabad Meteorological Center stated that a depression in the Bay of Bengal is causing the rainfall. This depression is expected to intensify into a cyclone by Friday and move towards southern Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh by Saturday. Consequently, heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted across Telangana on Friday and Saturday.
Alerts in Several Districts
Yellow alert has been issued for Adilabad, Kumrambheem, Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Kothagudem, and Warangal districts for Friday. Orange alert has been declared for Nirmal, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and Mahbubnagar districts for Saturday.
Government on High Alert
In view of the weather warning, Telangana CM K. Chandrashekhar Rao reviewed the situation with district collectors and issued instructions. Authorities have been advised to evacuate people from low-lying areas to safe locations or relief camps if necessary. GHMC, water authorities, and police are coordinating to minimize inconvenience.
