Andhra Pradesh Rains: Heavy Rainfall Expected with Northeastern Monsoon

This year, the northeastern monsoon is expected to bring above-normal rainfall, according to the Meteorological Department. The department has issued an advisory for Rayalaseema, warning that the surface circulation over Chittoor and surrounding areas could cause heavy rain in scattered places over the next 24 hours. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in other parts of the state. Many regions in Andhra Pradesh have already experienced rainfall on Monday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted higher-than-average rainfall for the next three months. The northeastern monsoon season, from October to December, is expected to deliver rainfall about 112% above the long-term average. Specifically, October rainfall could reach up to 115% of the normal.

Typically, the northeastern monsoon affects southern states such as Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and regions of Andhra Pradesh including Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema. Weather models suggest that the northeastern monsoon is likely to set in between October 17 and 21. With the southwest monsoon season ending, the arrival of the northeast monsoon is creating anticipation among farmers, offering relief and hope for the crops.
