Team India: India registers an unwanted record with loss to England.

India Suffers Defeat Against England Despite Five Centuries, Sets Unwanted Record

In the first Test against England at Leeds, Team India faced a disappointing defeat despite an extraordinary batting performance. Chasing a target of 371 runs set by India, England successfully reached the mark with just five wickets down, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series.

What makes the defeat even more bitter is the fact that India created an unwanted record—becoming the first team in Test cricket history to lose a match despite scoring five centuries in the same Test.

India’s batters were in fine form. Young wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant scored centuries in both innings, making 134 and 118. He was well supported by Yashasvi Jaiswal (101), Shubman Gill (147), and KL Rahul (137), all of whom registered centuries. Despite these impressive scores and India's large totals, the bowlers failed to contain the English batting lineup.

England’s batsmen chased down the 371-run target with ease, losing just five wickets. The loss has left Indian cricket fans deeply disappointed.

This unfortunate record previously belonged to Australia, who lost a match in the 1928–29 Ashes series despite scoring four centuries. That same match also saw the legendary Don Bradman score his maiden Test century.
