Team India Takes Firm Control in Edgbaston Test – Shubman Gill’s Double Century Steals the Show
Team India dominated Day 2 of the second Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England at Edgbaston. Captain Shubman Gill played a historic innings, scoring a massive 269-run double century, helping India post a total of 587 runs in the first innings. Later, Indian bowlers continued the momentum by reducing England to 77/3 by stumps, putting India in a commanding position.
Gill's knock is now one of the highest individual scores by an Indian captain in Tests, and the highest by an Indian on English soil. He built key partnerships — a 203-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja (89) for the sixth wicket and 144 runs with Washington Sundar (42) for the seventh. His patience, shot selection, and leadership made this one of the most memorable innings in recent Test history.
In response, England’s innings got off to a disastrous start. Young pacer Akash Deep, replacing Jasprit Bumrah, made an immediate impact by taking two wickets in back-to-back balls — dismissing Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope for zero. Later, Mohammed Siraj sent Zak Crawley (19) back, leaving England in deep trouble at 25/3. By the end of Day 2, Harry Brook (30)* and Joe Root (18)* remained unbeaten. England now trails by 510 runs, and only a miracle performance on Day 3 can save them from defeat.
