Heavy Rain Alert for 5 Telangana Districts – Rainfall Deficit in 10 Districts

Telangana Weather Update: Heavy Rain Alert for Five Districts

Telangana is currently facing unusual weather conditions. While ten districts are reporting a shortage of rainfall, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rains in five districts over the next two days. This change is mainly due to a low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to influence rainfall activity across the state.

According to the IMD report, the surface circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen into a low-pressure area within 24 hours. Along with the active monsoon trough, this system may bring heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mahabubabad, Mulugu, and Warangal districts. Other districts may receive moderate rains with thunderstorms, lightning, and winds blowing at speeds of 30–40 kmph.

On the other hand, many areas in Telangana are still experiencing rainfall deficit. By August 18, the state had 14% excess rainfall, but due to reduced rains in the past week, it dropped to a 9% deficit by Monday. Nirmal district recorded the highest deficit with 44%, followed by Peddapalli (21%), Jayashankar Bhupalpally (13%), and Nalgonda (13%). Rising temperatures have also been observed in several parts of the state due to less rainfall.
