Srisailam Dam: Rising Flood Waters in River Krishna – Current Situation at the Dam

Krishna River Flood Flow Increases – Water Released from Jurala to Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar

Due to heavy rains in the upstream areas, the flood flow in the Krishna River has increased significantly. As per reports, around 1.20 lakh cusecs of floodwater is currently reaching the Srisailam reservoir from the Jurala project. From Srisailam, about 67,000 cusecs of water is being released downstream.

Through hydropower generation, officials are releasing 35,000 cusecs from the Left Bank Power House and 31,000 cusecs from the Right Bank Power House to Nagarjuna Sagar Dam. This is expected to increase the inflow into Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir as well.

At present, the water level in Srisailam reservoir stands at 873.90 feet, slightly below the full reservoir level of 885 feet. The reservoir’s full storage capacity is 215 TMCs, while the current water storage is 172.66 TMCs.
