Heavy Rains in Upper Krishna Basin – Floodwater Reaches Srisailam, Power Generation Resumes
Due to heavy rainfall in the upper regions of the Krishna River, large volumes of floodwater are reaching the Srisailam reservoir. The water level is increasing hour by hour. As of now, 1,00,085 cusecs of water is flowing from Jurala to Srisailam.
The maximum water level of the Srisailam project is 885 feet, but as of this morning, the level has reached 874.30 feet. If the level rises by another 12 feet, the reservoir will be full. Out of the total 215 TMC storage capacity, the current water level is at 160.52 TMC.
As the inflow continues, officials have started power generation at both the right and left bank hydroelectric stations. Along with generating electricity, they are also releasing 58,750 cusecs of water from Srisailam into Nagarjuna Sagar downstream to manage the inflow.
