Heavy Flood Flow in Krishna & Godavari Rivers – First Warning Alert at Dowleswaram

Due to continuous heavy rains in the upper regions, both Krishna and Godavari rivers are overflowing with massive floodwaters. Nearly 15 lakh cusecs of water is flowing into the sea — around 5 lakh cusecs from Krishna River and nearly 10 lakh cusecs from Godavari River.

At Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada, the inflow is 5,05,976 cusecs, and the same amount is being released into the sea by officials to control the flood levels.

On the other hand, the Godavari River is in full spate. At Bhadrachalam, the water level rose from 48 feet on Wednesday night to 50.8 feet by Thursday morning. Floodwaters have entered main roads, cutting off access to several villages across multiple mandals. At Kalyanakatta area in Bhadrachalam, water has reached residential and bathing ghats, submerging steps and electricity poles.

At Dowleswaram Barrage, the inflow recorded is 9,84,339 cusecs, with an equal amount being discharged downstream. The first flood warning remains in force, with the water level recorded at 11.9 feet at the project.

The Disaster Management Authority Director Prakhar Jain has urged people in Alluri Sitaramaraju, East Godavari, Kakinada, Eluru, and West Godavari districts to remain alert. He advised those in low-lying and riverbank areas to take necessary precautions.
