Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday night reviewed the river flows and water storage in reservoirs across the state with senior officials. The CM directed that every reservoir and lake should be filled to capacity, and that flood inflows from upstream states should be monitored in real-time with coordinated actions taken as required. He emphasized analyzing rainfall and upstream inflows to manage water efficiently.
Officials reported that the Krishna River at Prakasam Barrage currently has a flood discharge of 6.57 lakh cusecs, which is expected to rise to 7 lakh cusecs by Monday evening. In the Godavari at Dhavaleswaram, the flood flow is at 10.12 lakh cusecs and could reach up to 11.50 lakh cusecs. Thousands of TMCs of water from the Krishna and Godavari rivers are being released into the sea. Currently, the combined water storage in all reservoirs in the state is at 94%.
The CM instructed that filling lakes and reservoirs should also be used to recharge groundwater and that residents in flood-prone areas should be continuously alerted. He directed all relevant departments to coordinate and provide necessary assistance in flood-affected areas. Officials from the Irrigation, RTGS, and Disaster Management departments participated in the review.
