Dilip Doshi Passes Away at 77 in London
Former Indian spinner Dilip Doshi has passed away at the age of 77. He died on Monday in London while undergoing treatment for heart-related problems. His family confirmed the news. Doshi had been living in London for many years.
He is survived by his wife Kalindi, son Nayan Doshi (a former cricketer who played for Surrey and Saurashtra), and daughter Vishakha.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed deep sadness over his death. In a post on social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter), BCCI said:
"It is very sad to hear about the passing of former Indian spinner Dilip Doshi in London. May his soul rest in peace."
Dilip Doshi was born on December 22, 1947, in Rajkot. He made his international debut for India at the age of 30 in a Test match against Australia on September 11, 1979. Though he started late, he made a strong impact.
From 1979 to 1983, he played 33 Test matches and 15 One Day Internationals (ODIs). In Tests, he took 114 wickets with an average of 30.71, including six five-wicket hauls.
He was known for his skill, discipline, and calm nature both on and off the field. Many cricketers and fans have paid tribute, calling his death a big loss to Indian cricket. His contribution will always be remembered.
