Indian women’s cricket star Smriti Mandhana has made history by becoming the fastest Indian cricketer to reach 5,000 runs in ODIs. With this feat, she surpassed the record previously held by Virat Kohli. Mandhana achieved this milestone during India’s Women’s World Cup 2025 match against Australia in Visakhapatnam.
In the match, Mandhana scored a brilliant 80-run innings, reaching the 5,000-run milestone in just 112 innings. Previously, Kohli held the record with 114 innings. Considering both men’s and women’s cricket, Mandhana is now third fastest globally, behind Pakistan captain Babar Azam (97 innings) and South African legend Hashim Amla (101 innings).
In addition, Mandhana also set a record for the most ODI runs by a woman in a calendar year, surpassing the previous record of 970 runs set by Australia’s Belinda Clark in 1997. Her dominant performance against Australia, hitting boundaries and sixes all around the ground, showcased her complete mastery on the field.
