IMD Issues Orange Alert for Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms in Several States
New Delhi, June 11 – The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for the next 2–3 hours across several districts in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Assam. The alert warns of moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds up to 60 km/h.
In Madhya Pradesh, districts like Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Dindori, Mandla, and Balaghat may experience bad weather. Chhattisgarh will also be affected, especially Mungeli, Kabirdham, Bemetara, Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Balod, Kanker, and Narayanpur districts.
In Maharashtra, areas like Gondia, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Wardha, and Nanded are on alert. In Karnataka, Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, and Ramnagar may see heavy rain. Tamil Nadu districts such as Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kanyakumari, and Theni could also be impacted. In Kerala, districts like Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thiruvananthapuram are under watch. Assam's Dibrugarh, Charaideo, and Sibsagar may see thunderstorms too.
Authorities have asked people to stay indoors, avoid sheltering under trees, and not to travel unless necessary. Roads may be slippery or flooded due to sudden rain. The IMD is closely monitoring the weather and will issue further updates. Citizens are advised to follow official sources for alerts.
