Kamal Haasan: Everything is political now… Rana reacts to Kamal's Kannada comments

Rana Reacts to Kamal Haasan Controversy: Social Media Has Become a Platform for Opinions; Even the Smallest Issues Are Now Politicized

Popular actor Kamal Haasan’s recent remarks on the Kannada language have sparked a major controversy, resulting in the ban of his upcoming film Thug Life in Karnataka. While the film is set to release worldwide today, it will not be screened in Karnataka due to the backlash.

Tollywood actor Rana Daggubati has now responded to the developments. During a promotional interview for his upcoming web series Rana Naidu 2, he shared his views on the issue.

"Social media has turned into a platform for expressing opinions. This wasn’t the case earlier. Now, even the smallest issue is being politicized and turned into a controversy," Rana said.

The controversy began after Kamal Haasan reportedly claimed that "Kannada originated from Tamil," a statement that triggered sharp criticism. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) condemned his remarks and approached the Karnataka High Court seeking a ban on the film's release in the state.

Although the court expressed displeasure over the situation, Kamal Haasan did not offer an apology in his letter to the KFCC. In fact, he stated that he had no intention of releasing the film in Karnataka. As a result, Thug Life will now release globally, except in the state of Karnataka.

Bollywood actor Abhishek Banerjee also weighed in on the issue, saying, "Just like there's a debate going on now between Kannada and Tamil, there was once a similar discussion in Mumbai between Marathi and Bihari when I had just moved there. Some people create these controversies just for attention.
