Monsoon Withdrawal 2025: Early Exit and New Bay of Bengal Weather System

Monsoon Withdrawal Begins from Western Rajasthan

  • Three days earlier than the usual date
  • 7% above-average rainfall across India this year
  • A new circulation forms in the Southeast Bay of Bengal
  • Likely to become a low-pressure system by September 20

The Southwest Monsoon, which brought abundant rainfall this year, has started to withdraw. On Sunday (September 14), the withdrawal process began from parts of western Rajasthan. Usually, this happens around September 17, but this time it started three days earlier.

Between June 1 and September 14, India received 846.4 mm of rainfall, compared to the normal 790.1 mm — about 7% higher than average.

Meanwhile, as the monsoon retreats, a new weather circulation has formed over the Southeast Bay of Bengal. According to forecasts, this system may develop into a low-pressure area over the Northwest Bay of Bengal by September 20. Experts, however, say it is too early to confirm whether it will intensify further.
