Cyclone Montha: 100 Trains Cancelled in AP

Severe disruption has hit Andhra Pradesh’s transport network due to Cyclone Montha. Even before making landfall, the cyclone has affected rail, road, and air services. The railway system has been the most impacted, bringing operations to a near standstill.

The South Central Railway has cancelled over 100 trains, including 95 trains under the Vijayawada Division, according to three official bulletins released by authorities. Several major routes — Vijayawada to Visakhapatnam, Guntur, Tenali, Kakinada, Tirupati, and Rajahmundry — have been suspended, along with long-distance trains to Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Howrah, and Bengaluru. Special refund counters have been set up to assist passengers and process ticket refunds.

Meanwhile, road transport services have been moderately affected. Authorities have cancelled 22 APSRTC bus services operating between Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Kakinada, and Rajahmundry. With many private buses staying off the roads due to safety checks, passenger rush has increased on RTC services. Officials said more services may be cancelled depending on the cyclone’s impact through Tuesday.

Cyclone Montha continues to cause widespread disruption, and authorities have urged the public to stay alert and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.
