Telangana CM Requests Centre’s Approval for Hyderabad Metro Phase-2
Hyderabad, June 19: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has formally requested Union Minister for Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar to approve the Hyderabad Metro Phase-2 project at the earliest.
The CM met Manohar Lal Khattar at his residence in Delhi on Thursday and explained the importance of the Phase-2 metro project. This project covers a 76.4 km route and aims to meet the growing public transport needs of Hyderabad city.
Revanth Reddy highlighted that the metro phase-2 will reduce road congestion, provide smooth commuting, and support sustainable development once completed.
The Telangana government is ready to undertake this Rs. 24,269 crore project as a joint venture with the central government. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been submitted with amendments based on suggestions from the Union Urban Development Ministry.
The CM urged the Union Minister to speed up necessary clearances from other departments to start the project soon.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, CM Revanth Reddy also met former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Blair, who now heads the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBIGC), focuses on helping world leaders design and implement development strategies.
During their meeting, Revanth Reddy shared key details about ‘Telangana Rising 2047’, a development vision to be launched publicly on December 9, 2025. This plan prioritizes social and economic growth for farmers, youth, women, and overall human development, using a new microplanning approach focusing on urban, peri-urban, and rural zones.
Tony Blair appreciated Telangana’s sustainable development focus and showed interest in flagship projects like Bharat Future City and Young India universities for skills and sports.
The Telangana government and TBIGC signed a Letter of Intent to partner on Telangana Rising’s vision and implementation.
The CM was accompanied by Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, MPs Raghuveer Reddy and Mallu Ravi, government advisor Jitender Reddy, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, and Secretary (Coordination) Gaurav Uppal.
