Concerns have emerged over women’s safety in Hyderabad Metro during night hours. A study conducted by iThemes Business School identified staff shortage and inadequate lighting as the main issues. Out of 410 women surveyed, 11% reported experiencing some form of harassment. Passengers also complained that men were entering coaches designated for women.
Although the metro is considered safe during daytime, night travel poses significant safety concerns. The study found that while 70% of women felt safe during the day, this perception drastically drops at night. The report recommends increasing female staff at metro stations, improving lighting facilities, and installing more CCTV cameras. The study was conducted by a student team under the guidance of Dr. Sahera Fatima.
