Old City Metro Project Speeds Up
- Land acquisition and road widening reach final stage
- Target to remove affected properties by next month
- Stations finalized with advanced DGPS survey
- 5.5 km stretch from MGBS to Chandrayangutta
The long-awaited Old City Metro project is moving at an unexpected pace. With the Telangana government pushing for faster completion, land acquisition and road widening works have reached the final stage.
The stretch from MGBS to Chandrayangutta (5.5 km) is under construction. Initially, over 1,000 properties were expected to be affected, but with better engineering solutions, the number was reduced to 114 properties. Over 50 have already been cleared, and the rest will be removed by next month.
The project, costing ₹2,741 crore, includes six stations – Salarjung Museum, Charminar, Kaliband, Shamsheer Gunj, Engine Bowli, and Chandrayangutta. Authorities are using DGPS, GNSS, and GPR technologies to precisely finalize pillar locations and safely relocate underground utilities.
