Sarfaraz Ahmad Appointed MD of Hyderabad Metro Rail; N.V.S. Reddy Becomes Urban Transport Advisor

Hyderabad, Sep 17: The Telangana government has appointed IAS officer Sarfaraz Ahmad as the Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited, replacing N.V.S. Reddy, who has held the position since the metro’s inception.

Sarfraz Ahmad, currently the Metropolitan Commissioner of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), has been given full additional charge as MD of Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited. A 2009 batch IAS officer, he takes over at a time when the government is planning to expand Hyderabad Metro.

N.V.S. Reddy, a retired Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS) official, has been appointed as advisor to the Telangana government on urban transport for a two-year term.

Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao issued separate orders for these appointments and other IAS transfers and postings.

Other administrative postings include:

  • Shruti Ojha, IAS (2013), posted as Director of Women, Children, Disabled and Senior Citizens (WCD&SC) department, replacing Srijana G, IAS (2013), who held additional charge.
  • Krishna Aditya S, IAS (2014), Director of Intermediate Education, given additional charge as Secretary of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TGSWREIS).
  • Kota Sreevatsa, IAS (2017), posted as Joint Metropolitan Commissioner, HMDA (General), with additional charge as Secretary, HMDA, replacing R. Upender Reddy.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held a review meeting regarding the formation of a new power distribution company, alongside the existing Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (SPDCL) and Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (NPDCL).

Officials briefed the CM that agriculture, lift irrigation, rural and urban drinking water supply under GHMC limits would come under the new distribution company. The CM suggested reorganizing the two current discoms into three, providing instructions on PPA allocation, staff division, asset distribution, and pending dues. The new discom will proceed after Cabinet approval, with a comprehensive plan to ensure speedy implementation.
