Heavy Rains Lash Coastal Andhra: Flood Alerts for Next Four Days

Coastal Andhra is drenched due to surface circulations over the Bay of Bengal. Heavy, relentless rains since Sunday night have disrupted normal life across several districts. Eluru district has been severely affected, with streets submerged and multiple areas recording significant rainfall.

On Monday morning, Eluru faced intense rainfall, flooding main roads across the city. Floodwaters entered the OPD section of the local government hospital, severely affecting medical services. Two people were injured after falling into a drain near the hospital due to the absence of cement covers. In Koyyalagudem mandal, a maximum of 91.4 mm rainfall was recorded till 4:30 pm on Monday, according to officials.

West Godavari district also witnessed severe waterlogging. Roads in Undi, Palakollu, Akiveedu, and Bhimavaram were submerged. Farmers expressed concerns over potential damage to the standing paddy crop due to excessive rain.

The Meteorological Department has warned that heavy rains will continue over Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema for the next four days, with intense rainfall expected in districts such as Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Palnadu, and Guntur. Experts further noted that by October 16, the south-east monsoon is expected to withdraw from these regions.
