Hyderabad, May 27: The Telangana government has approved Rs 4,000 crore for building 20 Young India Integrated Residential Schools.
The School Education Department issued a government order sanctioning the funds, following a proposal by the Telangana Education and Welfare Infrastructure Corporation.
These schools aim to provide quality education with world-class facilities to students from poor and weaker sections. Each school will be built at a cost of Rs 200 crore in 20 Assembly constituencies across the state.
Three schools will be constructed in Rangareddy district near Hyderabad, while two schools each will come up in Yadadri Bhongir and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts.
Last October, the foundation stones for 28 such schools were laid by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and other cabinet members.
Each school will have an ultra-modern campus spread over 25 acres, providing ample space for academics and extracurricular activities.
The government announced that these English-medium residential schools, from Class IV to Class XII, will be net-zero campuses using wind and solar energy. They will accommodate 2,560 students and 120 teaching staff each and will be equipped with digital libraries, smart boards, and computer labs.
The schools are designed to be inclusive, transcending caste, religion, and class, and will feature dedicated sports facilities such as cricket, football grounds, basketball, and tennis courts.
Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka encouraged parents to enroll their children in these schools for high-quality education. He highlighted that the architectural design focuses on sustainability, climate responsiveness, and accessibility for differently-abled students, including rainwater harvesting systems.
He expressed confidence that these integrated residential schools would become national role models.
In October 2024, while handing appointment letters to 10,000 new teachers, the Chief Minister stated that one Young India Integrated Residential School would be set up in each Assembly constituency to provide top-level education.
Telangana has 119 Assembly constituencies, and in March 2025, the government granted administrative sanction for Rs 11,500 crore for this project.
A committee of senior officials from various departments has been formed to oversee the development and implementation of these integrated residential schools.
