Sree Vishnu is preparing for the release of his upcoming film Comrade Kalyan, and the actor has opened up about his recent movies, career choices and the image audiences have developed around him. In a conversation with Gulte Pro’s Ram Venkat Srikar, he explained why he does not want to be limited to a particular genre.
Speaking about Swag, Sree Vishnu said he had expected the film to receive more appreciation. He described it as an ambitious attempt built around the theme of gender equality and felt that audiences may not have been fully prepared for such an experiment when it arrived.
The actor added that he was not particularly expecting awards for his performance. However, he had hoped that Swag would be remembered as one of the notable films of the year and encourage younger filmmakers to experiment with different ideas and storytelling styles.
Sree Vishnu also addressed the perception that he has become an entertainment or comedy-oriented hero. He made it clear that he does not consider himself only a comic actor and wants to continue trying different genres. According to him, a fresh story combined with entertainment can work well, but he does not want audiences to automatically expect comedy from every film he chooses.
That approach is reflected in Comrade Kalyan. Sree Vishnu revealed that the movie has a serious backdrop, but the team chose to deliver the story through an entertaining treatment. He acknowledged that the idea initially felt risky, although the comedy eventually blended naturally with the situations in the film.
The actor further said that he does not want to confine his career to a single genre. He is interested in exploring family entertainers and pure dramas in the coming years before returning to the fun-filled space. He believes taking a break from comedy could make his eventual return to the genre more interesting.
While discussing Comrade Kalyan, Sree Vishnu also clarified that the film was not conceived as a serious story with comedy inserted into it forcefully. Instead, he said the humorous moments emerge naturally from the situations and narrative.
With Comrade Kalyan nearing its release, Sree Vishnu is hoping that this combination of a serious backdrop and situational entertainment will connect with audiences.
