Neeraj Chopra Aims for Bigger Throws Despite Mixed Feelings in Doha

Neeraj Chopra Breaks 90m Barrier with New National Record in Doha
New Delhi, May 17 – India’s top javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra created history by crossing the 90-metre mark for the first time in his career. He threw 90.23 meters at the Doha Diamond League, setting a new personal best and national record. However, despite this amazing performance, he finished second, as Julian Weber from Germany won first place with a throw of 91.06 meters.

After the event, Neeraj said he was happy about crossing 90 meters but also felt a bit disappointed to come second. He recalled similar moments in past events where he threw well but still didn’t win. “It’s a bit bittersweet. I broke the national record but came second again,” he said. He was also happy that both he and Julian crossed 90m together.

Neeraj also shared that in recent years, he was struggling with a groin injury, which affected his throws. “This year, I feel much better,” he said. He is now training under his new coach Jan Zelezny, a 3-time Olympic champion. Chopra thanked his coach and said they trained hard in South Africa. Zelezny personally attended the Doha event and motivated Neeraj to go beyond 90m. With the World Championships coming up, Neeraj is hopeful and aiming for even bigger throws this season.
