IPL 2025 Restarts After Delay; Teams Name New Player Replacements

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which was delayed for one week because of tensions between India and Pakistan, will start again today. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has planned to play the remaining league matches in six cities. These matches will run from today until May 27.

After the league matches finish, the knockout stage will begin on May 29. The final match will be held on June 3. Today, the tournament will restart with a game between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Because of the one-week delay, many foreign players went back to their countries. Some players did not want to come back to India, and some got injured. So, teams made changes and brought new players to replace them. Here are the recent changes:

  • Punjab Kings (PBKS): Lockie Ferguson is out due to a thigh injury. Kyle Jamieson is his replacement. Mitchell Owen replaced Glenn Maxwell, who has a finger injury.

  • Gujarat Titans (GT): Kusal Mendis replaced Jos Buttler, who went back to England for another series.

  • Lucknow Super Giants (LSG): William O’Rourke replaced Mayank Yadav, who has a back injury.

  • Mumbai Indians (MI): Jonny Bairstow replaced Will Jacks, who left for the England team. Richard Gleeson replaced Ryan Rickelton, who returned to South Africa for national duties.

  • Delhi Capitals (DC): Mustafizur Rahman from Bangladesh replaced Jake Fraser-McGurk, who left the tournament for personal reasons.
