Uttarakhand Rains: Cloudburst Tragedy

Uttarakhand Floods: Cloudburst Brings Devastation in Rudraprayag & Chamoli

Heavy rains triggered by a sudden cloudburst have caused severe destruction in Uttarakhand, disrupting life in Rudraprayag and Chamoli districts. Floods and landslides left several families trapped under debris, while many houses and bridges were washed away.

In Chamoli’s Mopata village, officials reported that Tara Singh and his wife went missing, while Vikram Singh and his wife were injured. Their cattle shed collapsed, killing nearly 15 to 20 livestock.

The situation in Rudraprayag remains critical as the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers are flowing at dangerous levels. A bridge in Lavara village near Kedarnath valley was swept away, and the famous Hanuman temple in Rudraprayag was completely submerged. Authorities are evacuating residents from low-lying areas to safer zones.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep concern and said rescue and relief operations are being carried out on a war footing. District Magistrate Prateek Jain confirmed that in Basukedar Tehsil, four houses were washed away, but all residents were safely evacuated.

Meanwhile, landslides near Rani Bagh bridge on the Haldwani–Bhimtal road blocked traffic completely. Due to heavy rains, schools in Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Haridwar, and Pithoragarh districts were declared closed on Friday.
