UPI Usage Soars: Transactions Cross ₹90,000 Crore Daily

Unified Payments Interface (UPI), India’s leading digital payment system, has witnessed massive growth in usage. According to the latest report by the State Bank of India (SBI), UPI transactions in August 2025 averaged ₹90,446 crore per day, a sharp increase compared to earlier months.

The report highlights that both the value and volume of UPI transactions have grown significantly this year. In January, the daily average stood at ₹75,743 crore, which rose to ₹80,919 crore in July, and then crossed the ₹90,000 crore mark in August.

Not just in value, UPI transactions also grew in volume. Daily transactions increased by 127 million between January and August, reaching 675 million transactions per day.

SBI also revealed that it handled the highest number of transactions—5.2 billion in total—making it the top remitter bank in the UPI system. These figures clearly show that UPI has become the backbone of digital payments in India, supporting everything from small transfers to large-value transactions.
