The Indian government’s special mission, Operation Sindhu, has successfully evacuated 110 Indian citizens from Iran to Delhi amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. Out of these evacuees, 90 are students from Jammu and Kashmir.
The group arrived today at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, aboard Indigo Airlines flight 6E 9487. The central government’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Keerti Vardhan Singh, welcomed the evacuees at the airport.
Operation Sindhu was launched to ensure the safety and secure return of Indian nationals stranded in Iran. The Indian Embassy in Tehran coordinated the safe transfer of Indian students to secure locations before their departure, as officially confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The MEA stated, “Indian students in Tehran were safely evacuated from the city through arrangements made by the Indian Embassy to ensure their security.”
Given the ongoing conflict and deteriorating conditions in the Middle East, the Indian government has taken several steps in recent days to protect its citizens. This evacuation is part of those efforts.
India also expressed gratitude to the governments of Iran and Armenia for their assistance in making this safe evacuation possible.
The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized India’s commitment to the safety of its citizens abroad and said the Indian Embassy in Tehran is continuously coordinating with stranded Indians via a dedicated emergency helpline. The MEA has also set up a 24x7 control room in New Delhi for constant communication.
