Ban on Exit Polls During Jubilee Hills By-Election — Strict Action for Violations, Says RV Karnan
Authorities have imposed strict restrictions on conducting and publishing exit polls in connection with the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election. District Election Officer RV Karnan announced that any violation of these rules will invite strict legal action under the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
According to the directive, from November 6 (7 AM) to November 11 (6:30 PM), publishing or broadcasting any information related to exit polls is strictly prohibited. This rule applies to TV channels, newspapers, radio, social media, and digital platforms.
RV Karnan clarified that the move is intended to ensure a free and fair election process without outside influence. He warned that publishing election-related surveys, opinion polls, or analysis during this restricted period could distort voter perception and therefore is banned.
Anyone violating these orders may face up to two years imprisonment, a fine, or both, as per Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act. Additionally, under Section 126(1)(b), no survey results should be published within 48 hours before polling ends.
Karnan urged media houses, political parties, and social media users to strictly follow the election code of conduct to maintain transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
