CP Radhakrishnan to Take Oath Today as India’s 15th Vice President

New Delhi, Sep 12: CP Radhakrishnan, newly elected as the 15th Vice President of India, will take oath of office today (Friday) at Rashtrapati Bhavan. The oath will be administered by President Droupadi Murmu at 10:30 a.m., officially marking Radhakrishnan’s entry into the country’s second-highest constitutional office.

The ceremony will be attended by senior leaders across party lines, including Leaders of the Opposition from both Houses of Parliament and key members of the ruling NDA. Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar is also expected to be present.

Ahead of assuming office, Radhakrishnan resigned as the Governor of Maharashtra on Thursday. Following his resignation, President Murmu assigned Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat additional charge as Maharashtra Governor.

Soon after the swearing-in, Vice President Radhakrishnan will meet all floor leaders of the Rajya Sabha at 12:30 p.m., a meeting confirmed late Thursday evening.

Radhakrishnan, the NDA’s nominee, secured a decisive victory in the Vice Presidential election held on Tuesday, winning 452 votes against Opposition candidate and former Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy, who received 300 votes. The election was necessitated by the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Radhakrishnan after the results were announced, praising his lifelong commitment to public service. “Congratulations to Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji on winning the 2025 Vice Presidential election. His life has always been devoted to serving society and empowering the poor and marginalised. I am confident he will be an outstanding Vice President, who will strengthen our Constitutional values and enhance Parliamentary discourse,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
