Amarnath Yatra Suspended Due to Heavy Rainfall in Jammu & Kashmir
Heavy rains have been pouring continuously over the past two days in Jammu and Kashmir. Because of this, the Amarnath Yatra from the Pahalgam and Baltal base camps has been temporarily suspended from Thursday, as per the official announcement by the Jammu and Kashmir Information Department.
Due to the heavy downpour, emergency repair work is being carried out on the affected Yatra routes. Authorities decided to halt the Yatra for one day to ensure the safety of pilgrims and restore the damaged tracks.
According to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Relations Department, “The continuous rain for the last two days has caused damage on both tracks. Hence, necessary repair and maintenance work is underway, and the Yatra has been suspended from both base camps today.”
Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, confirmed the suspension and stated that the Yatra may resume tomorrow depending on weather conditions. He said, “Ongoing rainfall has forced us to take up urgent repairs on the tracks, so we have decided not to allow Yatra from both base camps today.”
Since the pilgrimage started on July 3, over 2.35 lakh devotees have already visited the holy cave. More than 4 lakh pilgrims have registered online. The 38-day Yatra will conclude on August 9.
