Operation Sindoor: India Strikes Pakistan; Islamabad Responds with Retaliation

Following the resounding success of "Operation Sindoor" by the Indian Armed Forces, Pakistan has resorted to an aggressive misinformation campaign to deflect attention and mask its setbacks.

Twisting facts and promoting fabricated narratives, Pakistan-backed social media handles and some political figures have actively shared misleading content. These include the use of old photos and unrelated videos, falsely presented as evidence of Pakistani military victories.

Notable misinformation examples include:

A viral image claiming a Rafale jet was downed near Bahawalpur, which was debunked by PIB Fact Check as a photo of a MiG-21 crash in Moga, Punjab (2021).

A fake video shared by Pakistani Minister Attaullah Tarar, alleging Indian troops surrendered at Chora Post.

A doctored video suggesting an attack on the Srinagar Air Base, which was actually footage from clashes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (early 2024).

Claims by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif about destroying an Indian brigade HQ and capturing soldiers were proven baseless; he later retracted those statements.

Experts suggest that Pakistan’s disinformation blitz aims to divert public and international attention from India’s actual success in Operation Sindoor. The campaign is seen as a digital smokescreen to mislead and manipulate perceptions.
