H-1B Visa Fee Hike by Trump Government Hits Indian IT; UK Welcomes Our Techies
The U.S. President Trump’s decision to increase the H-1B visa application fee to a staggering $100,000 (approx. ₹83 lakh) has created widespread concern, sending shockwaves through the Indian IT industry. Experts warn that this move could jeopardize the American dream for Indian IT professionals.
The U.S. market is the backbone of India’s IT industry, accounting for 57% of the country’s IT business. Last year, 71% of H-1B visas were awarded to Indian professionals. Experts predict that the latest fee hike could severely affect the sector. Analysts like Ganesh Natarajan, CEO of Zensar Technologies, say that the Trump administration’s decision has made it increasingly difficult for Indian talent to pursue opportunities in the U.S. Meanwhile, giants like Apple, Microsoft, and Meta are under growing pressure from the White House to prioritize hiring local talent.
While the U.S. imposes stringent rules, the UK is taking a completely different approach. The British government is crafting special plans to attract top global talent, even considering completely waiving visa fees for leading science and technology professionals worldwide. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, a "Global Talent Taskforce" has been set up to facilitate this initiative. India’s IT sector, which generates $283 billion (approx. ₹25 lakh crore) through work visas, software outsourcing, and business services, is expected to feel significant impact from the U.S. policy changes.
UK: A Ray of Hope for Indian Tech Professionals
While the U.S. shocks with H-1B fee hikes, the UK is rolling out the red carpet for talented professionals. Analysts suggest that Indian IT experts may increasingly look towards the UK instead of the U.S. in the coming years.
