Thalliki Vandanam Scheme Begins in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh government has officially started implementing the ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ scheme. From Thursday midnight, funds began transferring into the bank accounts of eligible mothers and guardians. A total of 35,44,459 beneficiaries will receive financial support. For each student, the government is giving ₹15,000. Out of this, ₹13,000 will go directly into the bank account of the mother or guardian, and ₹2,000 will be used for improving government schools and colleges through collector accounts.

What is the 'Thalliki Vandanam' Scheme?

The main aim of the scheme is to help poor students continue their education without dropping out. Under this scheme, every eligible student will get ₹15,000 per year. This also includes students from recognized private schools. The amount is given for each child in the family. Of the ₹15,000, ₹13,000 goes to the student’s mother’s bank account, while ₹2,000 is allotted to the development of the school or college. If the student’s mother is not alive, the amount will be credited to the father’s or guardian’s bank account.

Eligibility for Thalliki Vandanam Scheme

  • Applicant must be a resident of Andhra Pradesh

  • Student must study in Class 1 to Class 12 in a government or government-recognized private school

  • Student must have at least 75% attendance

  • The mother must have a bank account in her name

  • Family must belong to a financially weaker section (below the poverty line)

  • Children of government employees or elected officials like MLAs, MPs, MLCs are not eligible
