Texas Flood Death Toll Rises to 69; Rescue Work Continues
Houston, July 7: The deadly floods in Texas, USA, have taken the lives of 69 people, including 21 children, according to officials. Rescue teams are still searching for missing people in many areas.
In Kerrville County, 59 people were confirmed dead. 11 campers and one counselor from Camp Mystic are still missing. US President Donald Trump shared his sorrow on social media, calling this an "unimaginable tragedy."
About 20 counties in Texas have been affected by these floods. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed deep sorrow and sent condolences to the US Government and the families of the victims, especially the children.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott added six more counties to the state’s disaster list, making it 20 counties in total. He thanked President Trump for quickly declaring a disaster, which helped speed up debris removal and rescue operations. Abbott also warned about the next 24 to 48 hours, saying heavy rain may cause more flash floods, especially in Central Texas and Kerrville.
Freeman F. Martin, from the Texas Department of Public Safety, said they are using boats, helicopters, and rangers for rescue missions. He said finding missing children is the highest priority. Floods have hit Texas many times this year, and 2024 has seen a record number of flash flood emergencies across the US, according to AccuWeather.
