The National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced good news for students aspiring to pursue postgraduate (PG) medical education in Telangana. On Friday, the NMC approved an increase of 102 MD seats across 9 government medical colleges in the state. With this addition, the total number of government PG seats has increased from 1,274 to 1,376, offering a significant opportunity for medical aspirants.
Among the newly added seats, ESIC Hospital Medical College in Hyderabad received the highest allocation with 23 seats. Following this, Nalgonda Medical College got 19 seats, Ramagundam and Suryapet colleges received 16 seats each, and 8 seats were added in Nizamabad and Siddipet. Osmania, NIMS, and Mahbubnagar medical colleges each received 4 additional seats. The seat increment covers 16 MD courses, with Orthopedics gaining 16 seats, Pediatrics 14 seats, Anesthesiology 12 seats, and Gynecology 10 seats. Osmania Hospital received 4 new MD seats in the Hospital Administration department.
The Telangana government is taking further steps to strengthen medical education. As part of this initiative, the state is planning to introduce another 50 DNB (Diplomate of National Board) PG seats this year in key departments like Radiology and General Medicine at hospitals in Bhadrachalam, Gazwel, King Kothi, Miryalaguda, and Peddapalli.
Additionally, proposals for increasing Super Specialty (DM) seats at Kakatiya Medical College (KMC), Warangal, have been sent to the NMC, and officials are optimistic that approval will be granted soon. These measures aim to address the shortage of specialist doctors in the state and ensure better healthcare services for the public.
