A heavy to extremely heavy rain alert has been issued for several districts of Telangana for tomorrow. A cyclonic system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to cause heavy rainfall across the state until Saturday night. The Krishna and Godavari rivers are already overflowing. Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir is near full capacity; by Wednesday evening, 3.66 lakh cusecs of floodwater had entered, while around 3.20 lakh cusecs were released downstream.
Srisailam reservoir is also receiving heavy inflows, and excess water is being diverted to Nagarjuna Sagar. Floods from Maharashtra have caused the Godavari at Basara to rise dramatically, submerging the bathing ghats. At the Singur project, 8 gates have been opened to release over 67,000 cusecs of water. Officials warn that if the incoming rainfall continues, already full reservoirs could worsen flood situations.
Citizens are advised to remain alert and follow instructions from local authorities for safety during the heavy rain and flood conditions.
