Anantnag Railway Station in Kashmir Opens for Goods Transport

The Northern Railway has announced that Anantnag railway station in Jammu & Kashmir is now open for goods transport. This step, under the Jammu division, aims to boost economic activity in the Kashmir Valley by providing a new and efficient transport option for businesses.

The station will operate daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will handle all types of goods except petroleum products. It is part of the Baramulla–Srinagar–Banihal railway corridor, which comes under the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link project. Officials said the move will give better market access to Kashmiri products like horticulture, handicrafts, and fresh produce, while reducing transport costs and improving logistics—especially useful in winter when road travel is disrupted.

This development comes at a time when the Valley has full rail connectivity from Katra to Srinagar, including the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River. Local businesses and residents have welcomed the move, calling it a timely and transformative step for Kashmir’s economic growth. Officials assured that all environmental, safety, and security guidelines will be followed at the station.
