OpenAI to Set Up Office in India: Official Announcement in New Delhi

OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, is expanding its presence in India. The company officially announced that it will open its first office in New Delhi by the end of this year.

This decision supports the Indian government’s “IndiaAI Mission” and aims to provide better AI-based services to Indian users.

Currently, India is the second-largest market for ChatGPT after the United States. The number of weekly active users in India has grown more than four times compared to last year. To strengthen its operations, OpenAI has already registered a legal entity in India and started the local hiring process.

Speaking on the occasion, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said:
“India has incredible opportunities in AI. The country has skilled developers, strong government support, and the right ecosystem to become a global AI leader. Our goal is to make cutting-edge AI technology more accessible to everyone in India.”

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw welcomed the move and said:
“The opening of OpenAI’s office in India shows our progress in digital innovation. With the IndiaAI Mission, we are building a trusted AI ecosystem. OpenAI’s support will make this mission even stronger.”

Through the New Delhi office, OpenAI plans to work closely with the government, educational institutions, and local partners. The company also announced that it will introduce India-specific AI features and tools at affordable prices.

As part of its roadmap, OpenAI will host an Education Summit this month and a Developer Day later this year in India.
