Amaravati, June 27:
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that Muharram reminds us of the historic fight for human rights. He shared this message on the occasion of the Islamic New Year, which begins with the month of Muharram.
In his post on social media, CM Naidu mentioned that Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, was martyred during this month in the Battle of Karbala. He said that Muharram is a time to remember truth, justice, and sacrifice. He wished all Muslim brothers and sisters to observe Muharram with devotion and tradition.
The Islamic lunar calendar starts with Muharram. In India, the moon for Muharram was sighted on Thursday (June 26), and Friday (June 27) is marked as the first day. The 10th day, called Yaum-e-Ashura, falls on Sunday, July 6, which marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussain. Shia Muslims remember this day with mourning gatherings and processions, while Sunni Muslims fast to follow the Prophet’s tradition and reflect on the message of sacrifice and strength.
