Mohsin Naqvi & the Asia Cup Trophy Row: ICC Investigation Underway

Asia Cup Trophy Controversy Deepens – BCCI to Raise the Issue with ICC

The Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy is intensifying. Even six weeks after winning the tournament, Team India has yet to receive the championship trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken the matter seriously and plans to raise it officially during the ICC board meeting scheduled in Dubai this week.

India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the Asia Cup final held on September 28 in Dubai, securing their ninth title. However, during the post-match presentation, Indian players refused to accept the trophy and medals from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi, reportedly due to ongoing political tensions between the two nations. Moments later, Naqvi walked away with the trophy in hand, sparking outrage online.

BCCI Secretary Debajit Saikia confirmed that a formal letter had already been sent to the ACC more than ten days ago, but no response has been received yet. As a result, BCCI will push for resolution at Friday’s ICC meeting.

Apart from the trophy dispute, BCCI will also object to Mohsin Naqvi holding multiple roles simultaneously—as PCB chairman, ACC president, and Pakistan’s interior minister—arguing that it violates ICC’s governance norms.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is expected to support BCCI’s stance. Afghanistan recently withdrew from a tri-series with Pakistan following a deadly military strike that reportedly killed Afghan players, further straining ties between the two nations.
