Machilipatnam Port: Government Approves Additional Works

Machilipatnam: Greenfield Port Construction Progresses Rapidly, Govt Approves Additional Works Worth ₹213.66 Crore

The construction of the Greenfield Port at Machilipatnam in Krishna District has gained significant momentum after the coalition government assumed power in Andhra Pradesh. In line with the standards of Greenfield ports, the state government has granted permission for additional infrastructure works.

The EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction) Committee recommended additional works worth ₹213.66 crore, which the Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board will now execute. Orders to this effect were issued by Y. Sivaraj, Secretary, Infrastructure and Investment Department.

As part of the port's development, the CEO of the Maritime Board had submitted detailed proposals for several new structures. These proposals were reviewed by IIT Madras, and based on their recommendations, the government has approved the commencement of additional construction.

The newly approved works include the development of:

  • Fertilizer stockyard
  • Coal stockyard
  • Granite stockyard
  • Edible oil facilities
  • Other cargo handling yards
  • Container stockyard
  • Transit shed
  • Rail and road network expansion

The government has directed the CEO of the Maritime Board to take appropriate action and ensure the timely execution of these works.
