Indian Food: Centre Clarifies Digital Display Boards Do Not Target Street Food Culture

Centre Clarifies: No Orders for Digital Boards on Samosa, Jalebi & Other Foods

Recent news reports claimed that the Indian government had instructed schools, offices, and public places to display digital boards showing sugar and oil content in foods like samosas, jalebi, and vada pav. It was also reported that the government wanted warnings on these foods similar to cigarette pack labels.

However, the Union Health Ministry has clarified that these reports are false. The government has not issued any such orders or made any decision to place warning signs like those on cigarette packs. The PIB Fact Check also confirmed that this news is misleading.

The ministry explained that the intention was only to share general health advice with the public. The central government clarified that street food culture has not been targeted, and no specific food items were mentioned in any directive. The goal is simply to promote healthier food choices and lifestyles, not to ban or regulate traditional Indian snacks.
