Hyderabad Rains: Record Rainfall Disrupts City Life

Hyderabad Heavy Rains: Record Rainfall Brings City to a Standstill

Hyderabad witnessed sudden and heavy rains on Thursday evening, causing massive disruption across the city. In just a few hours, several roads turned into streams due to continuous downpour. Traffic came to a halt in multiple areas, leaving office-goers stuck for hours on the roads.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Kukatpally with 15 cm, followed by Serilingampally (14 cm), Saroor Nagar (12.8 cm), and Khairatabad (12.6 cm). Many low-lying areas were flooded, with water entering houses and creating panic among residents. In Srinagar Colony, a biker was swept away by strong flood currents, sparking fear. Major roads including Lakdikapul, Dilsukhnagar, Raj Bhavan Road, Madhapur, and Gachibowli IT corridor saw kilometers-long traffic jams.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who is currently in Delhi, monitored the situation closely. He instructed GHMC, Police, and Disaster Response teams to coordinate rescue operations, prioritize public safety, and restore normalcy, especially in low-lying areas. Control rooms have been set up in district collectorates under GHMC limits, with emergency helpline numbers announced. Heavy rains were also reported in other districts such as Yadadri (15 cm) and Nalgonda (14 cm). The Meteorological Department has warned of more rains in the coming days, urging citizens to stay alert.
