Rising Water Levels in Godavari River – Authorities Halt Papikondalu Boat Tours
The water level in the Godavari River is gradually increasing. Due to continuous rainfall in the upper regions and neighboring states over the past five days, the tributaries and streams are overflowing and merging into the Godavari. This has led to a noticeable rise in the river’s water level.
In response to this, 49,000 cusecs of water are being released from the Polavaram Project spillway. Officials from the Water Resources Department are on alert as the water flow continues to rise.
As a safety measure, boat tourism from Devipatnam to Papikondalu in Alluri district has been temporarily stopped. The Godavari floodwaters have also affected the R&B road between Dandangi and D. Ravilanka villages in Devipatnam mandal. As a result, transport to areas like Gandi Pochamma Temple has been disrupted.
