Girl Dies by Suicide at Andhra Pradesh College Hostel After Theft Allegations

KADAPA: A 17-year-old Intermediate second-year student committed suicide at the IIIT Idupulapaya Ongole campus on Tuesday night. She reportedly took this drastic action after being accused of stealing a mobile phone belonging to a senior student, who had lost it earlier that day in the canteen.
The girl, from Chirala in Bapatla district, came from a poor family with her father employed at ITC. Upon discovering the phone in her possession, the senior and college officials confronted her. Feeling humiliated, the girl hanged herself in the bathroom. Her classmates, noticing her absence during study hour, found her body and alerted the authorities. She was taken to the government hospital in Vempalle, where she was declared dead. A case has been filed, and her body was returned to her family following the postmortem.
